TGIF
I took my second trip to the Princes' Islands yesterday, this time hitting up Buyukada to celebrate Jacob's birthday. One 90-minute ferry ride plus one 40-minute bike ride landed us at a cliff that we had to slip down to arrive at an empty beach. We spent the day lounging in the Marmara, eating watermelon, drinking wine, and fishing for mussels (which tasted great once we cooked them up!).
Once we were finished celebrating, we scurried up the cliff to our bikes, only to find that 3 were missing. We sent 5 people back on bikes, one on some handlebars, and G and I took a horse- drawn carriage. Not romantic, as he had a giant gash in his foot and couldn't walk. The bike shop was obviously not happy about the missing bikes, and we had to sit on the curb for a few hours while we sorted out the situation. We missed our ferry, and were facing the possibility of having to pay over $100 each for the missing bikes. Luckily the three bikes were found at another bike shop around the corner (which was highly suspicious), and we were saved.
Aside from the near heart-attacks faced with the bike situation, it was another fabulous day at the beach.
